Terranova

Redevelopment and nature realization.

In 2010, Terranova became the new owner of the gypsum landfill in Evergem/Zelzate. The previous owner had gone bankrupt, leaving behind a neglected site that posed significant risks. Terranova developed a project plan to clean up and repurpose the area, transforming it from a neglected “black point” in 2010 into a modern and sustainable site by 2020.

Transformation Highlights:

  • From: Contaminated wastewater, unstable dikes, dust issues, and a landfill with no protective cover.
  • To: A remediated site featuring a state-of-the-art solar panel park, purified water systems, stabilized terrain, and no environmental or residential disturbances.

This effort turned the site into a “green hill” that supports renewable energy production and enhances the surrounding environment.

Development of Callemansputte

The Callemansputte site was historically used as a dumping ground for dredged material, with over 2 million cubic meters of wet dredging sludge deposited in an old sand extraction pit. Since acquiring the site in 2019, Terranova has taken immediate action to seal and remediate the landfill.

The project also includes the creation of valuable wetland ecosystems and recreational nature areas, emphasizing sustainable land use and ecological enhancement.
